Full Guide: FME Flow Troubleshooting Guide

Are you encountering issues with FME Flow (formerly FME Server) Projects? Please read below for some common troubleshooting tips, questions, and resources.

In 2023, FME Server underwent a name change and is now known as FME Flow. Since this article discusses features present in previous versions of FME, it will refer to both names interchangeably, using the appropriate product name based on the year the feature was introduced. For more information on the rebranding, see our website

Content Overview

Initial Troubleshooting

  • Does the FME Flow User have proper permissions to access and create FME Flow Projects? And permissions for applicable components – for example, Repositories, Resources, Web Connections?
  • Try restarting FME Flow.
  • If a Project contains API tokens, one of the following must be true to import:
    • User belong to the fmesuperuser group
    • The owner of the project conducting the import has the same user account on the target system.
  • From FME 2021.0 to 2022.0.x, when importing a Project with a Server app, you may run into Project Import Failure with error message: "User token Workspace App - <Workspace App name> for user account <user account> does not exist". The workaround is to include the user account in the project and not have created the user separately in the target (import) server.
  • In FME 2022.1, if a user has different roles/permissions across two machines and they create a Project with Workspace Apps, the imported Workspace Apps will be disabled as tokens are removed. After importing Workspace Apps, resave the Workspace App to create a new token, which will enable the Workspace App.

Common Issues

“Why can’t I add users to my FME Flow Project?”

To add users to any FME Flow Project you must be a member of the fmesuperuser role. Please see the documentation for more information.

"How can I maintain the "shared with" users for my Project from one environment to another?"

When a Project that has shared users is exported from one environment and imported into another, it is necessary to share the Project again.
