Instances

An FME Flow Hosted instance is a server running in Amazon Web Services with FME Flow running on it. There are five different instance sizes offered:

  • Standard: Entry level instance, good for running workflows with moderate memory and computing requirements. Two FME Engines*. For specifications, refer to Instance Type "m5.large" here.
  • Professional: A great balance of computing, memory, and network resources. Four FME Engines* enable large volumes of parallel data processing. For specifications, refer to Instance Type "m5.xlarge" here.
  • Select: A balanced option between the Professional and Premium types, providing eight FME Engines* and 32 GB of RAM. For specifications, refer to Instance Type "m5.2xlarge" here.
  • Premium: An extremely competent environment to undertake data processing tasks. 16 FME Engines* and 64GB of RAM ensure that larger, memory-intensive datasets can be tackled. For specifications, refer to Instance Type "m5.4xlarge" here.
  • Enterprise: Optimized for applications that benefit from high compute power. With 48 virtual CPUs, this instance type provides the lowest memory cost per CPU. For specifications, refer to Instance Type "m5.12xlarge" here.

Each instance size has a default number of starting FME Engines, but the number of engines can easily be increased or decreased depending on need.

Instance Costs

Safe Software offers three different pricing models for FME Flow Hosted, which all include unlimited engines and technical support: Annual Plans, pay-as-you-go, and bundled with the FME Platform Subscription. Annual plans are billed annually and include data storage, transfer, and backup costs. Annual plans have an estimated savings of ~40% annually. Pay-as-you-go instance costs are calculated per hour of use, with additional add-on costs for data storage, transfers and backups. Pay-as-you-go instances are billed monthly. The last option is to include FME Flow Hosted as part of an FME Subscription bundled with the rest of the platform. Please contact sales@safe.com for more information on this last option.

All estimated costs below are shown in US dollars. To purchase a plan in a different currency, please contact info@safe.com.

  Standard Professional  Select Premium Enterprise
Annual (per year) $12,000 $20,000 $30,000 $40,000 $75,000

All instances come with unlimited engines. Multiple engines allow you to process jobs in parallel. You can add as many engines as you want, but keep in mind that performance for larger jobs will be constrained by hardware, we therefore recommend launching only one engine per CPU core.

Data Transfer and Storage

Annual Plans

Annual plans include data storage, transfer, and backup costs. Transfer and storage costs are capped to protect from runaway costs and overages will be charged on-demand. The cap varies by instance size.

Instance Size Annual Data Cap (USD)
Standard $300
Professional $900
Select $1,200
Premium $2,000
Enterprise $3,000

Hourly Plans

Hourly plans do not include data transfer and storage and costs will vary by data volume.

Disk Storage

  • Disk storage is charged at $0.12 USD per GB per month
  • The minimum storage for an instance is 40GB (OS: 20GB, FME Flow data: 10GB, temporary data: 10 GB)
  • You are not charged for the temporary disk while the instance is paused

Backups

  • Backups are charged at $0.06 USD per GB per month
  • The backup storage sizes are calculated based on the amount of data stored on the FME Flow data disk at the time of the backup (i.e. not based on the total disk size)

Data Transfer

  • Inbound data transfers from the Public Internet are free of charge
  • Outbound data transfers to the Public Internet are charged at $0.13 USD per GB
  • Transfers within the same AWS region are charged at $0.01 USD per GB for both inbound and outbound

Estimated Monthly Data Transfer Costs

Here are some example scenarios to help you estimate monthly data costs, all costs in USD. There is a dynamic cost estimator in FME Flow Hosted that is available during the launch of a new instance which will show an estimate based on the volume size and backup count selection.

 Light Usage

Disk Storage 40GB
(OS: 20GB, Data: 10GB, Temp: 10GB)
$4.80*
Backups Count 2 $0.60**
Outbound Data Transfer 10GB $1.30
Monthly Data Costs   $6.70

Moderate Usage

Disk Storage 200GB
(OS: 20GB, Data: 100GB, Temp: 80GB)
$24.00*
Backups Count 2 $6.00**
Outbound Data Transfer 100GB $13.00
Monthly Data Costs   $43.00

Heavy Usage

Disk Storage 1200GB
(OS: 20GB, Data: 1TB, Temp: 180GB)
$144.00*
Backups Count 2 $60.00**
Outbound Data Transfer 500GB $65.00
Monthly Data Costs   $269.00

* The temporary disk costs assume an instance that is running during the entire month
** The backup costs assume a 50% usage of the data disk at the time of backup
