Symptom

Error (-2147024809): Invalid function arguments when creating a workspace or reading a File Geodatabase using the File Geodatabase (API) reader

Cause

This is caused by an unsupported coordinate system. The Esri File Geodatabase API supports a fixed list of coordinate systems - which are the coordinate systems defined by the version of ArcGIS that the FGDB was built with. Custom coordinate systems are not supported. Data in unsupported coordinate systems cannot be read or written.

Resolution

Make sure the FGDB only uses a coordinate system from the defined list of ArcGIS coordinate systems.
