Consideration
When creating a workspace or running a translation with the File Geodatabase (API) reader, FME may return the error Error (-2147024809): Invalid function arguments. This occurs while FME is reading data from the file geodatabase.
Why This Happens
- The Esri File Geodatabase API supports only a fixed list of coordinate systems — the ones defined by the version of ArcGIS used to build the file geodatabase.
- This supported list does not include custom coordinate systems.
- Data assigned to an unsupported coordinate system cannot be read or written by this reader.
How to Resolve It
1. Check the Coordinate System
Open the file geodatabase in ArcGIS Pro or ArcCatalog and check the coordinate system assigned to the affected feature class or table.
2. Compare Against the Supported List
Compare the coordinate system against the list of coordinate systems supported by the ArcGIS version used to build the file geodatabase.
3. Reproject or Rebuild if Needed
If the coordinate system is not on the supported list, reproject the data to a supported coordinate system, or rebuild the file geodatabase using a standard ArcGIS coordinate system.
