Error Configuring SQL Server Database

Symptom

After configuring FME Flow (formerly FME Server) to run with a SQL Server production database, the FME Flow core is still failing to connect with a Java connection error being reported in the fmeServer.log file.

Cause

The JDBC_URL connection may need tweaking slightly.

Resolution

Within the /Server/ fmeCommonConfig.txt locate the SQL Server database block you previously un-commented. The JDBC_URL within this block will be set to something like this:

JDBC_URL=jdbc:sqlserver://localhost/SQLEXPRESS (JDBC_URL=jdbc:<hostname>/<InstanceName>)

Try updating the URL to the following and restart FME Flow:

JDBC_URL=jdbc:sqlserver://<host>;instanceName=SQLEXPRESS;databaseName=fmeserver

Note: For FME Server 2020 and later the JDBC_URL parameter is located in the /Server/ fmeCommonConfig.txt & fmeServerWebApplicationConfig.txt .
