Introduction

This article contains the steps to migrate your floating license server to a new machine.

Step-by-step Instructions

Step 1: If FlexLM is not already downloaded on the new machine, download the floating license manager software for FME, under 'Floating License Installers'.

Step 2: Determine the hostid and hostname of your new machine. A simple way of performing this task is to locate the FlexServer folder on your machine (or, on Windows, go Start --> Programs --> FlexNet for Safe Software) and click on 'Generate hostid.txt'. This runs a batch file that creates a text file containing both the hostname and hostid of the machine.

Step 3: Navigate to the Floating License Request Form  and enter the required information into the web form. An email will be sent to you in a matter of minutes containing the new safe.lic file.

Step 4: Place the new license file in the FlexServer folder on the new machine.

Step 5: Start the license server (or restart, if it was already running) by either opening LMTools, going to the Start/Stop/Reread tab and hitting Start Server OR going to Start --> FlexNet for Safe Software --> Start - Restart FME License Server.

Step 6: Try running FME Workbench from a client machine (the licensing assistant will pop up), and enter the new name of your license server.

If you have any issues after completing this process, please take a look at the Floating License Troubleshooting page .
