Often proxy settings are used within organizations. Many transformers and readers/writers within FME communicate with other web servers to request data or interact with an API. For example, the TweetSearcher transformer communicates with the Twitter API to search Twitter for a specific query. If you are running workspaces that interact with web services and your organization has implemented a proxy server you need to ensure you set up FME correctly to deal with this.
Fortunately, FME comes with an option to use system proxy settings. You can choose to use or not use system proxy and can also save the authentication information for their proxy server if it requires authentication. The password is encrypted and stored in the registry.
For more information including how to use a proxy, please see the Network Proxy documentation.
