Using Recorder and Player transformers effectively

Introduction

The Recorder and Player transformers can help with caching data. Especially useful with databases.

Step-by-step Instructions

1. In your workspace, identify the Reader features types to export.

2. Open the Feature Type Properties of the Reader, select the Format Attributes tab, and click the checkbox next to fme_feature_type to expose the attribute

3. Add a Recorder transformer (you only need to add one Recorder transformer).

4. Connect all the Reader feature types you need to export to the same Recorder transformer (you do not need to connect the OUTPUT Port on the Recorder)

5. In the Parameters of the Recorder transformer, set the Feature Type Attribute to fme_feature_type and the Output Feature Store File to a location on disk

6. Run your workspace.

Note: You can restrict the number of features exported by setting the Max. Feature Types to Read on your reader.

Send us a copy of both your original workspace and the FFS file. We can then add a Player transformer to your workspace and play back your data - as if we were reading directly from your database.

If you open the FFS file and your feature types have the name "__RECORDED__", then you haven't properly set the Feature Type Attribute to fme_feature_type. Set the Feature Type Attribute and re-run the export.
