Esri Geodatabase (File Geodb Raster Dataset) Fails to Read Mosaic Datasets in ArcGIS Pro 2.2

Symptom

The Esri Geodatabase (File Geodb Raster Dataset) reader fails to read a Mosaic dataset. This reader is incompatible with ArcGIS Pro 2.2+ for the purpose of reading Mosaic Datasets.

In FME 2018.1+, the error in the log is as follows:

The Geodatabase raster dataset reader does not support ArcGIS Pro 2.2. Please consider downgrading to ArcGIS Pro 2.1 or using ArcGIS Desktop with Background Processing.

In FME 2018.0 and prior, the Esri Geodatabase (File Geodb Raster Dataset) reader/writer yields unusual behavior, in FME Desktop the translation fails with a generic log message. In FME Data Inspector, the application may crash.

Versions affected

With 64-bit FME 2016.1.3 to FME 2018.1+ and ArcGIS Pro 2.2 or higher installed, this issue affects the Esri Geodatabase (File Geodb Raster Dataset) reader.

Resolution

This has been fixed as of FME Desktop 2020.0 (build 20149). Please upgrade to the newest 2020 beta or release.

Workarounds

There are two workarounds available:

1. Reverting ArcGIS Pro to 2.1 will re-enable Mosaic dataset reading.
2. Installing ArcGIS Desktop 10.6 or higher with ArcGIS 64-bit Background Processing will re-enable Mosaic dataset reading,
