Symptom

FME Server administrators receive an error when attempting to restore an FME Server Configuration if they are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, and if the configuration file (.fsconfig) is larger than ~5GB.

The following error message may be displayed:

COM.safe.fmeserver.configuration.migration.FMEConfigurationException: java.util.zip.ZipException: archive is not a ZIP archive

Reproduction

Not all users will encounter this problem. It is more likely to occur for users who have a large amount of resources published to FME Server, and for those users who are required to use Microsoft Internet Explorer and have no browser alternatives.

  • Install FME Server 2019.0 or newer.
  • Upload ~5GB of files to Resources > Data (for example, copy the FME Server Installer multiple times).
  • Backup the FME Server Configuration.
  • Using Microsoft Internet Explorer, attempt to Restore the FME Server Configuration file that was just created. (Note: Tested with IE v11.345.17134.0)

Workarounds

  • Restore the FME Server Configuration using Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Mozilla Firefox. No configuration file size reduction is required.
  • Reduce the size of the configuration file before performing a Backup by removing any unneeded Resources or other files from FME Server. Only required if Microsoft Internet Explorer must be used.
