Errors with FME 64-bit & ArcGIS Background Geoprocessing

Introduction

This guide will help troubleshoot problems with FME 64-bit and ArcGIS Background Geoprocessing.

 

Problem

While running a workspace with FME 64-bit, you receive the error “Unable to retrieve the Workspace object from the WorkspaceName object. The error number from ArcObjects is: '-2147220952'. The error message from ArcObjects is: {}”

Or you receive this error: ‘GetLastError is: 127’.

Cause

The version of 64-bit Background Geoprocessing installed is currently incompatible with the installed ArcGIS version.

Solution

Uninstall the existing version of ArcGIS Background Geoprocess, and re-install the version that matches your ArcGIS Installation.

For example, if upgrading from ArcGIS 10.4.1 to ArcGIS 10.5. Uninstall ArcGIS Background Geoprocessing 10.4.1 and install ArcGIS Background Geoprocess 10.5.

 

Verification check for all Background Geoprocessing issues

1. Make a database connection in ArcGIS.

2. Ensure Background Geoprocessing is toggled on.

3. Use the Get Count Tool found under Data Management > Table.

4. If Esri fails, check your Background Geoprocessing 64-bit installation.
