Known Issue: Failed to load object data handling module adding Autodesk AutoCAD Map 3D Object Data Reader

Symptom

A user is unable to add an Autodesk AutoCAD Map 3D Object Data Reader (AUTOCAD_OD) but the user can add an AutoCAD RealDWG reader. The following error is received:

Error Message:

Object Data Reader: Failed to load object data handling module. No object data will be read
A fatal error has occurred. Check the logfile above for details
Failed to obtain any schemas from reader 'AUTOCAD_OD' from 1 datasets. This may be due to invalid datasets or format accessibility issues due to licensing, dependencies, or module loading. See logfile for more information

 

Cause

The error may be due to an incompatibility with the reader's third-party library and the Windows language format settings. The following languages are known to cause this issue:

  • English (Austria)
  • English (Denmark)
  • English (Finland)
  • English (Germany)
  • English (Netherlands)
  • English (Slovenia)
  • English (Sweden)
  • English (Switzerland)
  • English (United Arab Emirates)

Resolution

This issue has been resolved in FME 2021.0.
If you are not able to upgrade, please follow the below steps to resolve the issue:
  1. Open the Windows Region settings via: Control Panel > Change date, time, or number formats > Formats tab

  2. Update the Format setting to another format display language. We’d recommend setting it to “Match Windows Display Language (recommended)”.
    If the format language is already set to “Match Windows Display Language (recommended)” OR set to one listed in the previous section, please set it to another format, such as “English (Canada)” or “English (United States)” as we know these do not cause an error.
